Windows & Mac OS friendly!
This application requires the Adobe® AIR™ runtime to be installed for Mac OS or Windows
When you are installing the app, you will see a screen with a message "Are you sure you want to install this application to your computer?" It also shows that the Publisher Identity is UNKNOWN and the System Access is UNRESTRICTED. This sounds scary, but it's not really (as long as you trust me). Almost all applications you install on your computer have unrestricted to your system, Adobe is just reminding you of that fact. It also costs $300 a year for the certificate to digitally sign an AIR app and since I'm just tinkering, I'm going to hold off on that purchase for now.
I sit in front of a computer all day and I wanted something to put in the corner of my screen to cycle through recent posts from friends on my social networking sites without being too gross looking or distracting. I'm throwing it out there in case anyone else wants to use it too.
It can currently display your
Most desktop clients for social networks consist of lists and lists and lists and lots and lots of buttons. Opposed to this direct and active approach of seeking out new content, Whisk is intended to be an "ambient" application. Something that's persistent and around, but not in your face. Every once and a while you can get an impression of what's new and use it as a jumping off point if you want more info.
I built this very quickly over a few days. It does not handle errors very well, the settings are very basic (but you can pick your own colors!) and sometimes the display can go wacky or freeze. This is alpha software people. I am also using the beta version of Flex 4 which is not final and can be a little flaky at times. Most problems can be solved by closing and re-starting the app. I have a list of ideas to make it better. If people are into it, I'll work on it more. Cheers.

Since the app is built to display recent posts from different websites, you need to be connected to the internet.
For each service that you want to display items from, you need to authorize the app to retrieve information on your behalf.
You can click and drag the center of the bar to move the window.
There are basic playback controls at the top left of the playback window to pause or resume playback and go to the previous or next item. The buttons on the top right are for manually reloading the subscriptions, opening the settings window and closing the app respectively.
The control bar hides itself when not in use and re-appears when mousing over the playback window.
There are very basic settings you can tailor to your needs and aesthetics.
You should be notified when there is an update available. I wasn't able to use the default AIR updater interface, so you don't get a lot of feedback about what's happening, but you should at least see an error message if it failed to update or a success message after a successful install and restart.
If you are having problems updating or it's just not working, you can always uninstall the app, come here and install it again. You might have to sign into your sites again but it only takes a minute.
